With the mutas clumped like this you can use them to fire a strong single shot as one then back off for the cooldown and do it again. Micro is easy to dive into, since the Mutalisk in BW is such an interesting unit. This idea continues to every part of the game, to making sure your workers mine the correct patches (mineral boosting), intelligent base layout (which is much harder in BW than SC2, since maps are more widely varied and building collision works in a much different way than just a plain grid), large scale army control, scouting, macro, and micro. While this might seem tedious, it means the player taking time/attention/apm to dedicate to that seems meaningful results for their efforts. You have to constantly look at each base and move workers to mine, you have to select each building individually to produce from them, set all of their rallies separately.
